Algoma OHT Community Flu Clinics a Success!

Sault Ste. Marie, ON – The Algoma Ontario Health Team (AOHT) is thrilled to share the success of three Community Flu Clinics held in October and November of this year.

Over 2,400 flu shots were administered to community members at the clinics, which were held on October 23-24, October 30-31, and November 7 at the GFL Memorial Gardens. The clinics were hosted with oversight from the Group Health Centre and in partnership with several local organizations.

“The Algoma OHT Flu Clinics were a new partnership initiative designed to improve community access to the flu shot while increasing capacity and support for health professionals that administer the flu shot,” says Dr. Jodie Stewart, CEO of the Algoma District Medical Group and family physician at the Group Health Centre. “We’re pleased to have been able to reach such a large group of community members safely and effectively during this unprecedented flu season.” COVID-19 precautions at the clinics included pre-screening for symptoms, controlled flow of visitors and room for physical distancing, and increased facility cleaning with medical staff onsite.

“We’re very happy with the success of our first Community Flu Clinics, both in improving the accessibility of flu shots as a critical health service and in hosting these events as part of a joint initiative with partner organizations of the Algoma Ontario Health Team,” says Erik Landriault, Director of Integrated Care with the AOHT. “We’re looking forward to future opportunities to engage with Algoma residents at events like these.”
