Advancing Health and Social Equity in Algoma:
Improving our healthcare system through research
The AOHT is collaborating with local organizations to advance equity in our healthcare system.
Together with our partners, we aim to make collective, lasting improvements through equity-driven planning and delivery of health and social care. This means applying a lens that uses equity, diversity, and inclusion principles to ensure residents have what they need to achieve or maintain good overall health and wellbeing as they define it.
The AOHT is studying how people experience health and social care in the Algoma District. Follow along on our journey below.

Phase 1: Data Collection
Local health and social care organizations will collaborate to administer a generalizable survey through the AOHT to people they serve to determine health and social care system experiences system-wide. The survey will include an extensive, equity-driven demographic section and assess general interactions.
Phase 2: Data Analysis
Survey results will be compiled and de-identified. General results will be shared with participating organizations. Data will be used to identify priority populations and settings.
Phase 3: Planning and Co-design
Participating organizations will develop an increased internal understanding of the experiences among the people they serve. They will be participating in system-level efforts to address equity opportunities, including co-designing interventions for priority groups and/or settings.
Community members will be asked to participate in qualitative consultation.
