Preventative Screening
Background
Many cancers are preventable, and early detection significantly
improves the chances of successful treatment. Cervical cancer
screening can identify early cell changes before cancer develops,
or detect cancer at an early stage when it is most treatable.
Screening is recommended for individuals who do not have
symptoms and feel well.
In Algoma, some residents do not have a primary care provider.
Without access to routine primary care, it can be difficult to obtain
preventative services such as cervical cancer screening. This
creates a gap in care and increases the risk of delayed detection.
The Preventative Screening Clinics were established to help close this gap.
These clinics provide accessible cervical cancer screening for individuals
without a primary care provider, ensuring they can receive essential preventative care
and appropriate follow-up when needed.
